  • The group checking out a spatter cone, formed during ancient volcanic activity.
  • Several hills of coarse volcanic sand loom in the area.  Here's two people making a trek to the top of one to check out the view.
  • Kelsey needs a haircut.
  • Tracy ducks to gain entry to one of the lava tubes we checked out.
  • The light from our headlamps was easily absorbed by the black rock, so we used our camera flashes to find our way around a bit better in a sort of sonar manner.
  • One of the tubes includes a night tight squeeze to get to another entrance.  Of course we had to go through.
  • Richard, Tracy, and Kelsey, with Jess back there somewhere.
  • Ahh, finally reaching crawling size again.
  • Jess is stoked.
  • This exit is a bit of a climb out of the roof of the cave.  Jess followed us up in style.

  • At camp this night I tried a few experimental long exposures.  This trip has been improving my shots considerably, but I still have a lot to learn!
