Moab, UT

We spent a whole week in Moab, where we met up with a bunch of photographers at the Smugmug shootout. We took a small portion of them out for some climbing and high-angle photography, as well as a rope jump and all-around good times.

• A sea of sandstone surrounds Kelsey as he checks his camera during shooting of the Delicate Arch.
• Delicate Arch rises above the hillside in the glow of a setting sun.
• The narrowest part of Delicate Arch is just three feet thick.
• A distant moon sheds some light on the backside of Delicate Arch after the sun has gone down.
• Delicate Arch stands silent in the night, as Kelsey moves closer with his headlamp to examine the awe-inspiring feature up close.
• Stars whiz by as Delicate Arch stands in the monlight.
• On the morning we climbed Castleton Tower, we met another group of climbers racing to beat us to the climb. They won, but graciously agreed to climb as a team of eight and fixed ropes for us to follow on, and we made a few new friends.
• Kelsey creeps higher in a squeeze chimney on one of the lower pitches of the Kor-Ingalls Route 5.9 on Castleton Tower.
• Our new climbing partner Jess belays Medusa up one of the higher pitches.
• Medusa poses for the camera after carefully arranging his hair in a fitting manner, for him.
• Kelsey Gray follows us up using a toprope self-belay to save time in such a large party.
• Spectacular views fill our senses as we pack ourselves onto the small belay ledges of the Kor-Ingalls Route 5.9, thoroughly enjoying every minute of the climb. Here Kelsey belays Jess up from below, smiling at the scenery.
• Jess Young reaches the belay all smiles, stoked to be on such an amazing route after such a short time climbing.
• Jess Young takes it all in at a belay ledge hundreds of feet off the ground.
• One of our new climbing partners, also named Jess, stands at the belay before heading up and out of sight.
• The Kor-Ingalls Route's 5.9 offwidth crux looks down on Kelsey as he works his way up and into its wide and slippery jaws.
• Kelsey's sweater taunts him as he moves into the 5.9 crux of the Kor-Ingalls Route. He forgot he had tied it behind him, and spent most of the route thinking he had dropped it somewhere.
• Jess Young studies the rock as she moves into the crux of the Kor-Ingalls Route 5.9 on Castleton Tower.
• An awkward lieback move leads Jess Young through the 5.9 crux of the Kor-Ingalls Route without any falls.
• Jess tentatively creeps out to the end of a belay ledge to check out the enormous views all around.
