  • We headed out to the "Bruise Brothers" wall and hit up a few climbs. Here's Richard making a clip on a 5.9.
  • A bird's eye view of a bird's nest.
  • Tracy slots a nut behind a rather thin flake on her way up a 5.8+.
  • Kelsey takes a break with a no-hands rest on a 5.9 climb. One common goal of climbers is to be able to sit back in the middle of a climb and point out the fact that they're not using any hands.
  • We chased Autumn south during this whole trip, catching beautiful changing colors and moderate temperatures everywhere we went.
  • Tracy finishes off a nice 5.8+ trad lead in good style.
  • Jess followed up, leading the same climb as Tracy for her first successful lead climb ever. It's rated 5.8+, and trad to boot!
  • Jess makes a clip on a 5.8+, her first trad lead ever.
  • Richard eyes his next clip on a 5.10c.
  • A 5.10c goes down under Richard's unrelenting assault.
  • Richard takes a few deep breaths during his ascent of a 5.10c.
  • Difficult moves give Richard a short fall on a 5.10c.
  • Typical lighting on the climbs in the Red River Gorge is sunlight diffused heavily by foliage, and on this day a bit of clouds as well. The result is often some really GREAT lighting for climbing photography. Plus, there's always a climb nearby with separate anchors to use for a photo setup, and the angle of many of the walls lends itself perfectly to photos. Here, Kelsey makes a clip on a nearby route.
  • Kelsey moves through some delicate moves on a difficult overhanging climb.
  • Kelsey's hands make the clip as they haul him higher on the route.
  • Kelsey leans back in good form to eye the moves above him.
  • Richard climbs out of the shade on thin holds.
  • Tracy Borland works her way up a difficult climb.
  • Kelsey works some moves on a slightly overhung 5.10.
  • In the afternoon we met up with some fellow Alaskans, Grant and Cathy, and worked a few harder climbs. Here's Cathy on a 5.11.
