May 13 - 19 East End Road Fire, Homer, AK

A task force of engines from the Mat-Su area was assembled to head south and help fight the fire at Mile 17 East End Road in Homer. The day we were dispatched, the fire grew from 30 acres to over 700. It eventually died down at 1072 acres.

  • Greg Adamietz waters down a hotspot in a dangerously burned "snag" with a fedco, a firefighting tool with five gallons of water and a nozzle. These oversized squirtguns are notoriously unreliable as far as keeping the water inside them goes, so firefighters know that any time these come off the truck, we're getting wet.  This is a stitch of five or six photos.
  • Bowzr Diaz is ready for anything.
  • One of our assignments was ensuring complete extinguishment of a hillside near a barn that came very near to burning.  The view was great.  Left to right: Myself, Greg Adamietz, and Bowzr Diaz.
