  • With slippery rock ahead, John and I both know what is about to happen. He braces himself.
  • Uh oh...
  • Oooh...

  • Jason shows us where he spent a long night with a small fire keeping him company.
  • The meat from Jason's sheep is packed up in bags in preparation for hoisting it out of the canyon.
  • Showing no small amount of determination, Jason learns how to ascend a fixed line, bringing him and some of his gear out of the gorge to slightly more level terrain.
  • John struggles through a difficult learning curve, ascending a rope for the first time in cold weather and straight up a waterfall.
  • The Knik River Valley drops off behind John as he ascends out of the narrow rocky gorge.
  • Descent is just as much struggle as going up, with a considerably larger amount of gear weighing us down.
