  • The beginning of another wonderful trip: After landing in Lilongwe the crew piled into some vans and headed to a guesthouse for some much needed rest.
  • Our first evening in Malawi we attended a church service in a local home. The town here is sprawling over a wide area, which makes it difficult for members to attend services in the evening when they will have to walk a long way after dark. The solution to this is for the church to hold several evening services per week in different homes around town, and the church members attend whichever services they are able. The ones that are able to make all the services generally do.
  • The church's musicians play during song service. The small room inside the house wouldn't fit very many people, and it was hotter inside than out, so we overflowed onto the patio.
  • Brother Precious plays his guitar on the patio, illuminated by light from inside the house.
  • Our trip north to Mzuzu was made in a fully packed van. We brought a lot of extra clothing and equipment for donation, so our bags were piled high on top and strapped down tight.
  • There's not a lot of free time on a trip like this, so we took advantage of the hours of travel in our van to practice a few songs for singing at service that night. Here Sis. Ashley figures out the key to play one of our songs.
  • Sis. Naomi tries her hand with the violin as the Malawian countryside passes by.
  • The ground passes in a blur as our van heads north. We spent five hours traveling this day, then rested briefly before heading to a church service.
  • A small village sits in a beautiful location alongside the highway, apparently accessible by foot traffic only.
  • One of our wonderful hosts in Mzuzu is Bro. Stephen Kalua, who opened his home to some of our crew, and has fed us a number of delicious meals, like this one we found waiting upon our arrival. The upper room in his home has windows on three sides letting the breezes through, and stays considerably cooler than the outdoors.
  • Bro. Ray preaches at a local church in Mzuzu pastored by Bro. Martin. This church is currently being expanded, with a new building being built around this existing one, which will be demolished when the new one is far enough along.
  • Bro. Harrison Kalua listens intently as Bro. Ray preaches.
  • Evenings after church are filled with greetings, often from every member of the congregation. In the dark, illuminated by a single low-power light-bulb if anything at all, it can be pretty much impossible to recognize who you are greeting, so when you see them again the next day it's like meeting them for the first time.
  • Early morning at the coffee shop is a nice moment of rest before each day's activities. The crew takes a few minutes to grab some internet access and get caught up on the happenings at home.
  • Tracy copies a song onto paper for the group to sing.
  • Bro. Ray and Bro. Stephen catch up on the internet in the early morning before we head out to work.
  • A moment of repose for Sis. Tabitha in the early morning at the coffee shop.
  • A pit stop on the highway to Jenda led to this glimpse of the road, lit by the harsh African sun.
  • On this day we went with a group of brothers to a market in Jenda, where we set up a few wooden seats and had a service in the open air. Upon arrival the locals flocked around to see the happenings and greet us with giant smiles.
  • A young boy peers into the camera lens, barefoot on the hot African sand, as a group of his companions throng around Tracy and her camera.
