This project started off as an idea for a Christmas gift. I downloaded a copy of everyone's favorite meme and turned it black and white and printed it off. Then I chopped a circle out of a piece of oak.

  • This project started off as an idea for a Christmas gift. I downloaded a copy of everyone's favorite meme and turned it black and white and printed it off. Then I chopped a circle out of a piece of oak.
  • Here's the circle I started with, and then I took it outside and burnt the whole thing to a crisp with a torch.
  • With the disk burnt, I transferred my printed image to it by hand using a pencil to prep for the carving.
  • I used a dremel to carve out all the light spots. Simple as that!
  • Here's the carving roughed out. I tried a few different bits to smooth things out some, but eventually wound up back with my original carving bit and carefully smoothed the rough grooves to a happy medium roughness.
  • I finished the piece with a spray polyurethane and then mounted a cable on some screws on the backside. Seven hours start to finish, and that counts the drying time!
  • The finished Baby Yoda! One Christmas gift checked off.
