  • With the old construction paper battery holder I built several years ago starting to sag, I drew up a more permanent model on paper and set about bringing it to reality. No big project really, but here's the initial step of figuring out exactly how wide the rear panel needed to be by arranging all the elements involved.
  • Dimensions set, the next step was cutting out the back, sides, and bottom panels. I angled the bottom slightly by using a spacer on one end of the side panels while planing the other on my shooting board. The lines drawn here show where I will be gluing simple felt onto these panels in the next couple steps, which I didn't photograph.
  • After staining and clear-coating the panels, I glued felt to the inside as a cushion for the batteries, and then simply glued the panels together. The whole assembly hangs from a monitor wall bracket using sticky-backed velcro attached to the back of it. The batteries wound up slightly more tightly jammed in than I originally wanted, but the end result is quite satisfactory.
