Add in a little bit of sanding, a quick dusting with an air compressor, and a coat of Osmo for the finish, and I've got a couple of beautiful and functional tools fit for someone's dining table, where I used to just have a couple scraps destined for the fireplace.

  • With a few leftovers of exotic woods lying around, I figured it was time to crank out a couple phone holders. I started by cutting rough outlines on the chop saw and then used the belt sander to smooth those out into pleasing shapes.
  • With the shapes cut, I softened the edges with a roundover bit on the router.

  • To cut the phone holder groove I threw a dado blade 1/2" thick onto my table saw and cranked it over to 30*. Then to protect my pretty little fingers I built a quick sled and used a clamp to attach the small pieces and run them through the blade. If I had much bigger pieces the clamp would be in the way, but for these little guys it worked out just fine.
